TOP 5 BENEFITS OF VITAMIN E

Our Kalahari Melon Oil naturally contains the highest vitamin E levels of any other natural oil. That's five times more than argan oil.

WHAT IS VITAMIN E?

Vitamin E for Acne prone skin

Vitamin E isn’t a single molecule, but actually a family of eight oil-soluble compounds. In other words, there are eight different, naturally occurring forms of vitamin E that you’ll find in skincare products, one of the most common being alpha tocopherol.

Tip: If you’re unsure if your favourite moisturiser or hydrating serum contains vitamin E, look for tocopherol on the ingredient list.

IS VITAMIN E GOOD FOR FACE?

The use of vitamin E for skin has been around as a topical and oral vitamin for centuries, in the form of capsules of vitamin e or vitamin e oil for face creams and moisturisers. When you apply vitamin E topically it directly supplements your skin and can increase the amount of vitamin E naturally stored within your sebaceous (oil) glands. Many people believe in the use of vitamin e for acne scars, although the evidence of this treatment is mainly anecdotal, and hasn't yet been proven by medically reviewed research. However, it has an incredible amount of skin benefits, which supplements every beauty routine.

WHAT ARE THE TOP 5 VITAMIN E BENEFITS FOR YOUR SKIN?

1. SLOWS DOWN THE VISIBLE SIGNS OF AGEING

Vitamin E has powerful antioxidant properties that help to slow down the signs of premature skin aging, such as the appearance of fine lines, deep wrinkles, age spots and sagging skin. It neutralises reactive molecules, known as free radicals, which are on a destructive scavenger hunt for electrons and as a result damage your DNA, collagen and skin cells in the process. By mopping up free radicals, vitamin E prevents your skin cells from undergoing this kind of oxidative stress and therefore slow skin ageing over time (1). Remember to also wear sunscreen daily.

2. PROTECTS YOUR SKIN

Antioxidant vitamins protect against daily environmental stressors, like air pollution and the sun exposure, both rich in free radicals. Facial oils containing vitamin E quenches these reactive molecules so well that it’s known as a photoprotectant, meaning it protects against damage caused by UV rays (2). We recommend using vitamin e facial oil as a final step in your nighttime skin care routine, to boost skin health.

3. MOISTURISES YOUR SKIN

Topical vitamin E has rich moisturising benefits for dry skin and atopic dermatitis, owing to its emollient properties, which smooths your outermost skin layer and fills in the cracks between skin cells. Unlike hyaluronic acid, which hydrates at the surface by holding onto water, vitamin E hydrates your skin by preventing transepidermal water loss (TEWL), where water vapor escapes from your body via the skin’s surface.

4. ACTIVE FOR LONGER

Our Kalahari Melon seed oil is completely free of artificial preservatives, owing to its incredibly high levels of vitamin E, which naturally stabilises the other the oil, ensuring long lasting skin benefits. This is important because most natural plant oils are unstable by themselves, undergoing a degradation reaction known as oxidation, so require additional preservative ingredients. Free from fragrance and artificial preservatives, our vitamin e face oil is compatible with reactive and sensitive skin. See the patch test.

Tip: If you see tocopherol on the label it means the vitamin E was derived naturally (like the one in our Pure Kalahari Melon Facial Oil), whereas tocopheryl acetate usually refers to synthetic vitamin E, made in a laboratory.

5. SUPERCHARGES YOUR ROUTINE

By now, you’re probably wondering “but what about vitamin C?” In fact, a clinical study has shown that vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is the primary replenisher of vitamin E, and the two work synergistically to enhance the effects against oxidative damage (3)
